On April 12, 2024, at around 1:45 PM, a serious traffic accident occurred on the BAB 6 heading towards Saarbrücken, about 4 km after the Goldene Bremm border crossing. The driver at fault was driving his car in the right of the two lanes. In the area of the Im Almet bridge, 01 changed lanes to the left without paying attention to the traffic behind. The car driving in the overtaking lane at that time had to swerve left to avoid a collision. Subsequently, 02 steered to the right, skidded, and ultimately collided with the central guardrail after another counter-steering attempt. The collision caused parts of the guardrail and vehicle debris to be thrown onto the opposite lane, hitting a vehicle driving in the left lane there. As a result, several vehicles in the lane heading towards France initiated emergency braking. Despite these brakes, another serious rear-end collision occurred when a vehicle traveling at considerable speed crashed into the back of a vehicle ahead.
The damaged vehicles were no longer drivable and had to be towed away. Two vehicle occupants were taken to Winterberg Hospital with minor injuries. The lanes had to be completely closed, and traffic was redirected over the shoulder in both directions. The removal of debris and the blocking off of the damaged guardrails lasted until 6:30 PM.
The vehicle responsible for the accident is unknown. According to witnesses, it could be a Ford, possibly a Ranger model.
Witnesses of the accident as well as previously unknown injured road users are requested to contact the PI Sbr.-Stadt by phone at 0681 9321 233.
