Losheim am See – The construction work between the buildings of Losheim (from house number 63) to the Hochwälder Brauhaus involves an extensive renovation and enhancement of the existing heavily frequented walkway. As part of the investment, the complex street drainage will be connected for the first time to the newly constructed street drainage channel.
“With this measure, we are meeting the guidelines for road drainage and upgrading the popular footpath towards Losheimer Stausee both structurally and visually,” explains Mayor Helmut Harth about the construction project. “Approximately 890 m² of paving will be relaid and a new curb and gutter system covering around 335 m² will be installed. The new drainage facility will comprise around 300 m². Additionally, a partial widening of the walkway with greenery and resting areas is planned to enhance the recreational character. Furthermore, the walkway will be generally widened to create more space for pedestrian traffic. A barrier-free bus stop opposite the senior residence will also be integrated into the overall measure. Moreover, pedestrian safety will be significantly improved by the installation of a raised platform. The municipality of Losheim am See is investing around 300,000 euros in total for this, while benefiting from approximately 67 percent funding from state funds.”
In the construction area, there will be a partial road closure. A traffic light system will regulate the traffic during this time. The affected residents have already been informed in advance by the construction company to promote acceptance. The mayor of Losheim is also appealing for understanding among the population, as restrictions are to be expected during the anticipated 7-week construction period.
"Road construction or civil engineering work may always seem rather unspectacular, but they form an important prerequisite for the maintenance and expansion of a functioning infrastructure. The municipality of Losheim am See is very pleased that these infrastructural investments are still feasible thanks to the funding framework in Saarland," said Mayor Helmut Harth.
