This is the concept of "shady spots" in the Saarlouis district. Last year, the first five of these charming places, scattered across the district, were created. Recently, five more were inaugurated. Among them is one in Saarwellingen near the riding facility, where you can now sit next to a silver lime tree and look out over the wide countryside.
At a press event there with Saarlouis District Administrator Patrik Lauer, the Deputy Chairman of the Kreissparkasse (KSK) Saarlouis, Stefan Klein, the Head of Market Management at KSK, Robert Steinmeier, and Saarwellingen Mayor Manfred Schwinn, it was emphasized that creating “shady spots” along hiking trails, cycling paths, walking routes, or simply in towns and villages is an important future project within the tourism concept of the Saarlouis district.
As in the previous year, the KSK Saarlouis is also supporting the current project with an amount of 5000 euros. The "shady spots" are created in cooperation with municipalities. They take care of the tree planting, the installation of benches, and the future maintenance of the "shady spots".
At the press event, Stefan Klein, the Deputy Chairman of the KSK Board, emphasized how important sustainability is to KSK. This also includes a commitment like this: "By introducing our apps, we have significantly reduced paper usage in the area of account statements. And the money we have saved by doing so, we would like to give back to the region in the form of 'shady spots'."
Saarlouis District Administrator Patrik Lauer said: "The 'shady spots' are a nearly perfect symbiosis of nature conservation, tourism, and commitment to our region. It makes me very proud that the KSK dedicates itself to the topic of sustainability in such an impressive way." A place with a wonderful panoramic view has been created here, where visitors from near and far will surely feel very comfortable.
The mayor of Saarwellingen, Manfred Schwinn, emphasized that this "shady spot" is another building block for tourism in his municipality. This is important because: "Sustainability, tourism, and hiking are currently on everyone's lips."
In addition to the "shady spot" in Saarwellingen above the riding facility Auf der Höh, "shady spots" have recently also been inaugurated in Saarlouis (Rodener Wiese), in Ensdorf (at the Saar oxbow), in Überherrn (L351, at the Saarland bike path) and in Rehlingen-Siersburg (Gerlfangen near the elevated reservoir, Merzweg).
Last year, the first five "shady spots" were installed at the following locations: Schwalbach (Waldzeit, Traumschleife), Wadgassen (Saar Cycle Path, Towpath on the Saar), Lebach (Kaltenstein Trail, Traumschleife), Schmelz (Rötelweg), Nalbach (Forest Adventure Trail).
