Watching the woodpeckers at work
The next highlight in the hiking calendar is the nature walk around Lockweiler on Sunday, May 21. From Krettnich, the path takes us past the Bungertshütte over fields and meadows. Then we head into Langheck towards Überroth. We continue hiking through Langheck into various forest structures. We will see and hear numerous animal species along the way, with the hiking group primarily introduced to the different woodpecker species of our region. Bring your binoculars; it will be worth it. Your knowledgeable guide is Bernd Konrad, NABU chairman of the OG Lockweiler-Krettnich and an accomplished nature photographer. The meeting point is at the community center in Krettnich at 6:00 a.m. The participation fee is three euros. Registrations are possible at www.wadern-saarschleifenland.de under events, or you can scan the QR code in the hiking flyer. The “Woodpecker Safari” lasts about 2.5 hours.
The hiking flyer is now available free of charge at our tourist information office in Wadern Town Hall. If you would like more information or wish to book a guided hike, simply contact us using the contact details provided on the flyer.
