This morning, around 04:55 AM, several emergency calls were received about a wrong-way driver on the BAB 8, between the Homburg-Einöd junction and the Neunkirchen motorway interchange. The vehicle was driving in the direction of Saarlouis, although the actual intended direction was towards Zweibrücken. During its journey, it partially endangered other road users. However, no accident occurred. In the construction zone near the Neunkirchen-Oberstadt junction, the vehicle, a Mazda driven by a 66-year-old from the Donnersberg district, was stopped by police forces. Subsequent checks showed no signs of alcohol or drug consumption. The start and cause of the wrong-way driving are currently unknown. Investigations are ongoing. A criminal investigation was initiated against the driver for endangering road traffic according to § 315c of the German Penal Code, and his driver's license was confiscated.
