Its responsible department 3 – Citizen Services of the city of Blieskastel, has significantly improved fire protection in municipal school buildings and daycare centers. The city administration had all school buildings inspected by an engineer for preventive fire protection. "We can say that we have made improvements in many places," said Guido Freidinger. Among other things, the escape route and fire protection signage were updated to the latest standards, the fire protection regulations according to DIN 14096-Part A were posted in all classrooms and corridors, and fire protection regulations Part B were created for the teachers of the individual schools and daycare centers. At the same time, all buildings were equipped with smoke detectors on the necessary escape routes through an internal fire alarm system, ensuring early fire detection and securing the primary escape route.
All teaching staff and educators were instructed by the city administration of Blieskastel regarding the legally mandated technical regulations for workplaces, measures against the outbreak of fires, behavior in case of danger, as well as building evacuation. This annually required training covers the potential hazards and provides information on measures to prevent them in the event of fire and accidents. The use of fire extinguishing equipment was also taught to teaching staff and educators by the Fire & Civil Protection department of the city of Blieskastel in both theoretical and practical training sessions.
Guido Freidinger: "We have equipped all seven primary school buildings with internal fire alarm systems. The nine daycare center buildings assigned to us have also been fitted with either building alarm systems or fire alarm systems. The two Protestant kindergartens have also joined this high level of safety. We maintain close contact here." Freidinger, the deputy mayor, further adds that all schools and daycare centers also have fire department plans and additional hazard prevention plans, which have been primarily developed by the Fire & Civil Protection unit. "In this regard, we are pioneers in the Saarpfalz district when it comes to safety in preventive fire protection," Freidinger concludes. The city of Blieskastel has invested around €75,000 in preventive fire protection for schools and daycare centers alone in the past two years.
The safety in "preventive fire protection" is also ensured by the volunteer fire departments of the city of Blieskastel. "In case of a fire alarm in a school or kindergarten, we always respond with at least three firefighting districts, so that we have a maximum of personnel available even at a morning time when staff is critically low," said the city fire chief Michael Nehlig.
