„No Limits“ – Crossover String Quartet

Wolfgang Mertes and Solveigh Röttig (violin), Angelika Maringer (viola), Jan Krause (cello)

The "No Limits" string quartet is one of the most extraordinary chamber music ensembles in Germany. With ease, the musicians switch from classical to tango, from rhythmic to elegiac, from self-arranged crossover pieces to captivating gems of the quartet literature.

Accompanied by informative and linking commentaries, the viewer is captivated by the music from the very first piece, music without boundaries. From Bizet's Carmen to Brubeck's Blue Rondo, Morricone and Piazzolla to Rimsky Korsakov – their music builds bridges, opens horizons, and brings together pieces in a way never heard before.

Wolfgang Mertes began playing the violin at the age of 5. As a soloist, he performed with the Dresden Philharmonic and the Radio Philharmonic Hanover. Since 1999, he has been the 1st concertmaster of the Saarland State Orchestra. In Saarland, he frequently performs with the groups Yellow Cello, Bongos Bigband, and Jazz à la française.

Solveigh Röttig is known to Saarland chamber music enthusiasts from numerous concerts with the Haydn Quartet Saarbrücken. As a member of other ensembles, including Ensemble Corventou, DuoDezim, and Quartet IntuitIV, Solveigh Röttig dedicates herself intensively to chamber music alongside her teaching activities and has also discovered her passion for Irish folk in recent years as the violinist of the band Seldom Sober. Angelika Maringer performed for several years with the Mentis String Quartet both nationally and internationally, completed chamber music courses with the Alban Berg and Amadeus Quartets, and taught for 10 years at music schools in Berlin. Her work as a violist in the Theater des Westens, the Friedrichstadt-Palast, the Hebbel Theatre, the Babelsberg Film Orchestra, the Berlin Symphoniker, among others, rounded off her artistic career. Jan Krause has been the principal cellist of the Saarland State Orchestra since 1991.

Edwin Bohlinger - A Berliner Enthralls with "Chansons in Saarland Dialect"

He is a native Saarlander and at the same time has long been a Berliner by choice, so to speak, having two homes. Edwin Bohlinger moved to the then still divided city as a student. Now he presents his songs in Moselle Franconian dialect with guitar accompaniment: "Chansons in Saarlandish." He says that 'the language' has never left him despite the many years in the capital. 'The language' is imbued with a unique spirit of life that the 'Saarland people' carry with their customs, quirks, peculiarities, and endearing oddities. How could he ever have forgotten 'the language'!

Edwin Bohlinger is active in the city on the Spree with musical projects. As a "side job," as he says, he is a teacher at a Berlin school with heart and soul. Several years ago, he was guitarist and singer of the Saarland dialect band "Blues en Ville." After a concert, the Saarbrücken newspaper stated: "Every Saarlander’s heart opens up to the lyrics. […] So much milieu wrapped in blues rhythms, it leaves no one indifferent. It was genuine life support for Saarlanders struggling with their identity."

Edwin Bohlinger brings culture ‚dahemm‘ to life with his chansons, adding a musical touch - sometimes cheerful and fun, sometimes melancholic and contemplative - creating a unique experience.

Also interesting is his page on the worldwide web with many pictures and audio samples from the recording studio – the CD is in preparation: https://www.edwin-bohlinger.de
