In all cities and municipalities of Saarland, many thousands of dedicated people will once again set out to clean up, for example, green spaces, schoolyards, playgrounds, forest and roadside edges, or embankments from wild rubbish.
In Lebach and its districts, 26 groups have responded to the call and registered to participate. In total, 1,098 people – as many as never before! – will be out and about next Friday and Saturday to collect trash and debris.
The Entsorgungsverband Saar (EVS) as the sponsor and coordinator of the campaign and the city of Lebach ask all road users who are on the streets around the official collection date to drive with due care so that the picobello participants operating in public traffic space are not endangered.
Equipped with protective gloves and heavy-duty bags, diligent helpers set out on both Friday and Saturday to collect garbage and debris. Central collection points are set up throughout the city area, where the employees of the municipal maintenance yard collect the heavy-duty bags and transport them to the EVS disposal facility. There, the waste is accepted free of charge by EVS as part of the campaign.
Lebach’s Mayor Klauspeter Brill is pleased with the commitment of the citizens to their city: “Of course, I would much prefer if such a litter collection campaign were not necessary at all, because neither trash nor debris would be lying around in nature. But unfortunately, that is wishful thinking. Therefore, it is great that so many volunteers set out during the 2023 action weekend to pick up and properly dispose of what others carelessly throw away.” After the registrations were completed, out of the 1,098 participants in Lebach alone, 894 were children and young people. Kindergartens and schools are involved just as much as clubs, political parties, local councils, the volunteer fire department, or companies.
