Losheim am See – The preparatory work for the construction of the new bridge on the popular walking path around the Losheim Reservoir began on January 9th. Mayor Helmut Harth had previously asked for the understanding of visitors, as the popular walking path around the Losheim Reservoir could not be used as a circular route during the construction phase. There were plenty of alternative options for walking, jogging, and hiking nearby, such as a pleasant tour on the "Sonnenrunde" dream loop or a walk through the 50,000 sqm lake garden. A detour for hikers was also signposted during the construction phase.
On February 28th, the moment had finally come: the new bridge made of powder-coated and thus weather-resistant aluminum arrived at its destination in the early morning hours via heavy-duty transporter. A specialized company from Austria had completed the bridge entirely at their domestic factory to avoid a longer installation time at the reservoir. The bridge including installation costs around 190,000 euros. The municipality of Losheim am See was financially supported in this investment by the Ministry of Economy, Innovation, Digital Affairs and Energy.
“Our new bridge is 14.5 meters long, 3.2 meters wide, and weighs 3.4 tons,” explains Mayor Helmut Harth. “For a structure of this size, it is a true lightweight with the most economical use of materials possible, yet the assembly still required a heavy-duty crane. At this point, my heartfelt thanks go to the team around construction manager Karl Thome and our 'Building' department, whose excellent preparations made it possible to place the bridge on the abutments smoothly and in a record time of 10 minutes. Contrary to some concerns on social media, the clearance width of the structure, at 2.5 meters, is perfectly sufficient for the usual emergency service vehicles.”
