Minister of Education Christine Streichert-Clivot: "Friedbert Becker is an example of how to manage everyday school life even in times of great challenges. He was not only there to enjoy the beautiful moments in school life. Above all, he was there in difficult times, responding to the concerns of students and the needs of the faculty. Friedbert Becker has redesigned the Gemeinschaftsschule Theley and sharpened the school's profile."
Friedbert Becker was born in 1948 and attended the St. Wendel Mission House as early as the age of nine, at the time with the idea of becoming a priest later on. After completing his Abitur, he decided to study religion and history and became a teacher. His true calling, however, was found as a school principal: Since 2003, he had been leading the current Schaumberg Theley Community School and was reluctantly retired by his staff after several extensions. Many teachers confirm that Friedbert Becker was not only an empathetic but also an energetic principal. He enjoyed participating in the school’s own musical productions and ensured that the newly redesigned schoolyard became an attraction for the village’s children and teenagers. Friedbert Becker advocated for the school to establish its own sports class, helping it remain competitive with other secondary schools.
Friedbert Becker also made significant contributions as a local politician. For 42 years, the CDU member served as the village mayor, guiding the affairs of Theley. His aim was to seek and find common ground with those holding different political views. It was always important to him to be ‘close to the people.’ As a member of the St. Wendel district council, he was particularly active in the areas of youth, culture, and education. Additionally, he was a member of the regional school conference, a deputy in the broadcasting council, and part of the cultural committee of the German County Association. Through the initiated renovation of the Johann Adams Mill, he also created a new center for social and cultural life.
“People like Friedbert Becker shape the image of our society. Especially as Minister of Education, I would like to express my gratitude to Friedbert Becker for his tireless commitment to excellent education,” emphasized Minister of Education Christine Streichert-Clivot in her speech.
