In March, it will start its 27th semester. Children’s Officer Corinna Bast and Andreas Obster, head of the municipal adult education center, have once again put together four interesting offers. Children between 8 and 12 years old are warmly invited to listen to exciting topics and learn a lot of fascinating facts. It kicks off on Saturday, March 25 at 4 p.m. with a lecture on the topic "Electricity and Renewable Energies." Guillem Tänzer from the Saarlouis municipal utilities explains where the electricity comes from, as well as how to save electricity. On Saturday, April 22, art and culture will be the focus of the children’s university. Dr. Andreas Bayer, director of the Institute for Contemporary Art, invites a visit to the old laboratory and personally guides through the exhibition. Here, the children learn that pictures do not necessarily always hang in a frame on the wall.
There are many other possibilities that Dr. Bayer explains together with the artist Claudia Vogel. Afterwards, participants are invited to become artistically active themselves. Anyone who has ever wanted to know what goes on behind the scenes of a supermarket should not miss the visit to the Saarlouis GLOBUS on Saturday, May 13. Julia Petry and Stephan Hauck are experienced Globus employees and explain the journey of goods from the manufacturer to the shelf. They show visitors where the delicious bread is baked and what exactly goes into the sausage. They are happy to answer questions, and at the end, there will be a small tasting. The semester ends with a lecture by Martin Entenmann on June 24. He explains how groundwater is pumped from the soil, how the Saarlouis municipal utilities ultimately transform it into healthy drinking water, and what bees and beekeepers have to do with it.
