At around 10:50 a.m., a fire broke out in a multi-family house on Sulzbachtalstraße. The building contains a total of 15 apartments.
When the first police forces arrived, there was already heavy smoke, shortly followed by open flames, visible from the window of a ground-floor apartment. According to witnesses, the residents had already left the apartment. Entering the building was no longer possible due to the heavy smoke in the hallway.
The fire brigade, which arrived shortly thereafter, immediately began extinguishing efforts, so that the fire was quickly brought under control and completely extinguished in a short time. After the fire was put out and all apartments were checked, it was found that a total of 5 people had minor injuries and were admitted to the hospital with smoke inhalation. Most of them were discharged again after outpatient treatment.
Three apartments in the building were initially uninhabitable after the fire. The residents living there were accommodated by the city of Sulzbach, whose mayor was also on site, in other accommodations. The remaining residents were able to return to their apartments.
According to initial estimates, the material damage amounts to approximately 100,000 - 150,000 euros. The exact cause of the fire is not yet determined. The police investigations in this matter are ongoing.
