Mayor Peter Demmer, Mayor Marion Jost, and Alderman Günter Melchior must then answer before the fool's court and fight for dominance in the town hall. For their replacement, the Saarlouis city prince couple is already ready.
Traditionally, Fat Thursday belongs to the carnival participants and Faasendboozen, whose whimsical reign no administration can escape. After the pandemic-related break, Saarlouis is starting with a new concept: Together, the Saarlouis carnival clubs have decided on a fundamental change in the procedure of storming the town hall. Unlike before, it is no longer about the storming of the town hall itself. Instead, the clubs convene the Saarlouis carnival court. The carnival trial, followed by the sentencing, is held publicly on a stage at the Großer Markt near the Marienbrunnen. The event is framed by the traditional parade from the Kleiner Markt to the Großer Markt as well as a colorful entertainment program with artists on the stage.
Fat Thursday in Saarlouis at a glance: It starts at 2:30 PM with a warm-up DJ and the opening of the beverage stand. Exactly one hour later, at 3:30 PM, the parade begins at the Kleine Markt heading to the stage at the Große Markt accompanied by the fanfare band. This is followed by a performance by Schorsch Seitz at 4 PM before the city association of cultural clubs and the Saarlouis jesters’ circle subsequently bring forth the general indictment against the city administration leadership. This is followed by the immediate arrest and the start of the proceedings by the chief prosecutor, whom the defendants counter with their defense attorney. Shortly before 5 PM, the court withdraws for deliberation and hands over the stage to Christof Lesch aka Fidelius, before the carnival court at 5:15 PM culminates in the pronouncement of the verdict and reaches its climax with the enthronement of the carnival rulers, Prince Jonas I and Princess Lea I. Afterwards: celebration at the square as well as traditionally inside the town hall.
