Ursula Ochs-Steinfeld and Albrecht Ochs read ballads and prose texts from the rich treasury of German literature on two Sundays. Since the 18th century, but also earlier, a rich and extensive tradition of ballad poetry has developed in the German-speaking world, which continues to the present day.
At both soirées, ballads from the 20th century, such as those by Bertolt Brecht, Erich Kästner, Frank Wedekind, and Wolf Biermann, will be read.
In addition, short narrative forms such as anecdotes or short stories by Heinrich von Kleist, Johann Peter Hebel, and others are on the program.
The readings are intended to bring poetry to life as acoustic phenomena, exactly in the way Goethe expressed it in his essay "On Art and Antiquity": "The mystery of the ballads arises from the manner of delivery."
Each of the two soirées has its own selection of texts, thus a special program.
Dates: Sunday, January 29, and Sunday, February 5, 2023, each at 5 p.m., at the Kulturhaus St. Ingbert, Annastraße 30.
