The previously unknown perpetrator could be identified due to a quick investigative success. The attacker is a 36-year-old man from the district of Neunkirchen.
On the night in question, police officers from the Saarbrücken-Stadt precinct involved in the operation checked a couple who were staying in the immediate vicinity of the restaurant. During this, the officers also recorded the personal details of the woman and the man.
During the course of the investigation, the police reviewed video footage from the restaurant on Richard-Wagner-Straße in Saarbrücken. The man who was checked at the crime scene was identified as the person who attacked the police commissioner. The 36-year-old has already been involved with the police for violent offenses.
The man from Merchweiler did state to the police that he had been in Saarbrücken on the night of the incident. However, he did not provide any further information.
