I know that overtime is not a given, and that is why I sincerely thank our emergency, aid, and rescue services for their dedication, commitment, and willingness to perform.
The protective loop of the Ministry of the Interior, Construction, and Sports, supporting the commitment of the emergency forces, carries the colors blue, white, and red. These represent the colors of the police, emergency medical services, and fire brigade. But there are also other emergency, aid, and support services. For example, pastoral emergency care, as well as the THW and others, all of whom I want to include in my thanks at the end of the year.
Whether large wildfires, like this year in parts of Saarland, or house fires with fatalities. Whether it is storm events, like a few weeks ago in Urexweiler, where the fire department and THW had to clear the destruction caused by a tornado, and the reconstruction aid after the Ahr disaster, or aid convoys to Ukraine.
The operation is always difficult, and it has been clear even before the fatal shootings in Kusel that an operation, in this case in the police profession, is full of dangers and unpredictable challenges. Thus, emergency personnel increasingly have to assert themselves against insults and disrespect in order to provide assistance to victims.
I truly appreciate everything you have accomplished this year. And I am aware of how much effort and stress were involved in the operations. I would like to sincerely thank you once again for your dedication and excellent work, and I wish you all, as well as your families, a happy and healthy start to the year 2023!
