Through the arriving units of the Neunkirchen Police Department and the Neunkirchen Fire Brigade, heavy smoke development and shortly thereafter strong flames from an apartment on the 1st floor were detected.
Ten residents who were located above the apartment on fire were rescued using a turntable ladder. During the firefighting operations, the 68-year-old occupant of the apartment on fire was found dead. As a result of the fire, a total of 14 people aged between 2 and 55 years were injured by smoke inhalation and taken to nearby hospitals for examination. Only one person has to remain in the hospital for at least 24 hours due to severe smoke inhalation. The property is currently uninhabitable. The property damage is currently estimated to be in the mid six-figure range. In addition to the property on fire, an adjacent building had to be evacuated during the firefighting operations. The investigations into the cause of the fire are being conducted by specialized departments and are still ongoing. A total of approximately 120 personnel from the police, surrounding fire departments, various rescue services, the THW, the city of Neunkirchen, and emergency pastoral care were involved in the operation.
