Passersby reported a noticeable steam on the Market Place around 21:50. Upon closer inspection, they found that a hydrant stock had burst. The hydrant was set up for the Christmas market. Uncontrolled water was spraying out from the hydrant. Due to the strong frost, the water spray caused a mirror-like surface on the road in the area of the Market Place and parts of Lindenstraße.
The passersby alerted firefighters at the fire station who were still present after their weekly drill. Two firefighters ventured into the water fountain and quickly shut off the water supply with a hydrant key. Simultaneously, the fire department secured the mirror-like hazardous area. Afterwards, the municipal service center spread the area extensively.
The police and city utilities also provided support during the operation.
