A 23-year-old driver from Merchweiler lost control of his Opel Corsa for unknown reasons in a right-hand curve, crossing into the oncoming lane and colliding with the oncoming VW Golf of the 27-year-old driver from Ottweiler. Both drivers were seriously injured in the accident and had to be transported to hospitals in Homburg and Saarbrücken for further treatment. They each underwent emergency surgery due to their injuries (polytrauma). According to current knowledge, there is no danger to life. Investigations into the cause of the accident are ongoing. The road was icy at the time of the accident. Both vehicles were completely damaged. The damage is estimated at approximately 30,000 euros. Cleaning work is still underway at the accident site, which may cause traffic disruptions.
