Accordingly, the Carnival holidays in Saarland are to be retained – unlike in Rhineland-Palatinate. The decision by the Ministerial Council is now followed by the so-called external hearing. Within a period of four weeks, interest groups and associations can submit statements on the proposal.
Minister of Education Christine Streichert-Clivot: "The new multi-year holiday schedule provides planning security for children, adolescents, families, and the teams at our schools. We are operating within the framework set by the Conference of Ministers of Education, aiming for a significant overlap in holidays with our neighboring state of Rhineland-Palatinate, and the teaching periods between the individual holidays should not be too long."
The newly approved proposal aims for teaching periods of approximately equal length between the individual holiday periods. Continuous teaching periods of more than 10 weeks are avoided. At the same time, a common core week and identical summer holidays with Rhineland-Palatinate are maintained in as many holiday periods as possible. Unlike in Rhineland-Palatinate, the carnival holidays are to be retained in Saarland. The proposal for the new holiday regulations also allows for maximum flexibility in the planning and scheduling of central exams.
The proposal from the Ministry of Education and Culture (MBK) for the Saarland holiday regulations for the school years 2024/25 to 2029/30 was preceded by consultations with the statewide parents' council, as well as the main staff councils of all school types. The Saarland State Student Council (LSV) was also invited to participate.
Now follows the so-called external consultation: within a period of four weeks, interest groups and associations can submit their official statements on the proposal. After that, the state government will make the final decision.
