Last Saturday (05.11.2022), officers from the Saarbrücken City Police Station conducted a check on a vehicle and its occupants in Saarbrücken-Ensheim, which had been reported suspicious by witnesses. During the search, they found the ID card and a savings book belonging to a missing woman from Heusweiler-Niedersalbach, as well as valuable watches. The occupants of the car, a 66-year-old woman and her 44-year-old son, were arrested.
The 74-year-old has been missing since September 19, 2022 (Monday). On that day, she said goodbye to her neighbors before embarking on a two-week vacation to the Black Forest. According to neighbors, the missing woman started her vacation with another woman.
When the woman from Heusweiler did not return from the vacation, the neighbors alerted the police. Since October 27, 2022, the elderly woman has been publicly sought (see press release from the Lebach police).
The 66-year-old arrested vehicle occupant, a suspected family member of the missing person, is said to be the woman with whom the 74-year-old went on vacation on 19.09.2022. Checks by the department for crimes against life revealed that the two women were indeed staying together in a hotel in the Black Forest and also left together.
Witnesses claim to have seen the missing person alive on 01.10.2022 during her return journey to Saarland. Based on current findings and items belonging to the missing person found during the vehicle inspection, the duty court issued an arrest warrant against the 66-year-old woman and her son on suspicion of homicide. The two suspects are now in the correctional facilities of Zweibrücken and Saarbrücken, respectively.
The missing woman from Heusweiler, who the police had been publicly searching for since the end of October, has most likely been violently killed. Two suspects, a 66-year-old woman and her 44-year-old son, have been in custody since Sunday (see press release from 08.11.2022).
As part of the investigations, officers from the department for crimes against life and the Gendarmerie Nationale searched the residence of the 66-year-old suspect in the border region of the Moselle department. During the operation, the authorities found a female corpse inside the house. The overall circumstances suggest that the deceased is most likely the missing senior. A definitive identification is still pending.
It has not yet been determined whether the searched residential property of the suspect, who is a cousin of the victim, is also the crime scene. The search for and securing of evidence, as well as the analysis, is being carried out by the French police officers. The autopsy of the discovered body, which will also take place in France, has not yet been scheduled.
At the house in France, officers of the Gendarmerie Nationale also secured a vehicle, among other things.
The investigations into the crime scene, the circumstances of the offense, and the motive are ongoing. The public manhunt can be discontinued.
