Oberthal: On Saturday, 05.11.2011, a gas pipeline was damaged during excavation work in the Oberthal locality, leading to the release of a large amount of gas. As a result, the affected road had to be closed and several residential properties were evacuated by the emergency services of the Oberthal fire brigade and St. Wendel police.
The evacuated individuals were cared for by fire department personnel and employees of the municipality of Oberthal. The energy supplier had to temporarily interrupt the gas supply to the affected area and initiated repair measures. There were no personal injuries or major property damage, especially due to the rapid implementation of measures by the emergency services.
