On Saturday around 11:26 a.m., a fire broke out in the city center of Völklingen. After several emergency calls reporting a residential fire were received by the Saarland Police's command and control center, the location on Moltkestraße was immediately visited by several units of the police and Völklingen fire department. Upon arrival, meter-high flames were seen coming from the dormer window in the attic.
The fire department began extinguishing efforts, Moltkestraße was completely closed, and the surrounding properties were evacuated. At this time, all residents were no longer inside the property. The fire was extinguished by the fire department without spreading to the adjoining properties. A 33-year-old resident was slightly injured by smoke during the fire and was taken to the SHG Klinikum Völklingen as a precaution. The property, which suffered significant financial damage, is no longer habitable. The cause of the fire is still unclear. Investigations are ongoing by the police.
