Saarland's Minister of Mobility, Petra Berg, expressed optimism about the federal and state agreement on the Germany ticket. "49 euros, one ticket, hop on and travel without limits. This is how people will use local public transport in Germany from now on. This Germany ticket is thus a very important first step towards the mobility of the future. The important message is that with this 'Germany ticket,' public transport gains attractiveness not only in Saarland but throughout the entire Federal Republic."
In addition to the urgently needed financial relief during this time of inflation, especially due to the generally high energy costs, the ticket will also contribute to climate protection. Petra Berg concluded: "Already during the 9-euro ticket phase, numerous people switched from cars to buses and trains. Hopefully, this trend will continue with the Germany ticket."
Minister Berg emphasizes that the ticket must meet an attractive offer in order to become a sustainable success. "People will switch from cars to public transport more frequently if public transport is as easy to access as the ticket itself. Therefore, it is very encouraging that the federal government is fulfilling its responsibility and has made concessions to the states regarding regionalization funds. Because the expectation is clearly to enable more public transport for people, the system must be financially structured accordingly."
Together with the transport companies and the municipal authorities responsible, intensive work is now underway on the introduction of the "Deutschlandticket" in Saarland. It is also being examined whether the ticket introduction necessitates further adjustments to the existing tariffs within the saarVV.
