This marks the start of its 16th edition. Over 4,100 students have so far participated in the Saarland with more than 1,500 miniature models in the youth competition.
This year, the planning task is to design a pedestrian and bicycle bridge and build it as a model. All students from general and vocational schools in Saarland are invited to demonstrate their craftsmanship, creativity, and forward-looking planning skills.
The student competition, with its annually changing tasks, has meanwhile become an integral part of the curriculum at the participating Saarland schools. "The consistently high number of participants shows that it is indeed possible to inspire young people for engineering topics. I hope that as many of them as possible will stay involved and that we can thus contribute to securing skilled workers with our student competition," explains Dipl.-Ing. Christine Mörgen, President of the Saarland Chamber of Engineers.
The Saarland Minister of Education, Christine Streichert-Clivot, who was happy to take on the sponsorship again this year, emphasizes: “This competition is a great example of how scientific, technical, and artistic topics are interconnected. With the competition, the Chamber of Engineers enables networked and interdisciplinary learning. It challenges the many creative minds among Saarland’s students, helps to discover talents, and makes an important contribution to promoting team spirit, creativity, and enthusiasm for innovation.” Individual and group entries from students of general and vocational schools are eligible. The competition is announced in two age categories – Category I up to grade 8 and Category II from grade 9. The state winners of both age categories then participate in the national finals, which also feature a special prize from Deutsche Bahn for a particularly innovative project. The registration deadline is November 30, 2022 – models must be submitted by February 17, 2023. Continuously updated information about the student competition "Junior.ING" is available on the website of the Chamber of Engineers at www.ing-saarland.de or at www.junioring.ingenieure.de.
