At the youth traffic school in St. Wendel, Chief Police Commissioner Wolfgang Gläser, traffic safety advisor of the Saarland Police, once again trained parents as traffic assistants for the town of Niederlinxweiler. The parents perform this duty on a voluntary basis and thereby make a significant contribution to traffic safety.
In this training, POK Gläser imparts theoretical and practical content so that the volunteer helpers are equipped to safely accompany the students on their way to school.
The theoretical training content includes, for example, the possibilities and limitations of the parent crossing guard role, knowledge of traffic rules and signs, reaction and braking distances, recognizing hazardous situations and how to deal with them, liability issues, as well as communication when interacting with children and other road users. After the theoretical briefing, the new crossing guards were allowed to put their newly acquired theoretical knowledge into practice at a pedestrian crossing and a bus stop in Niederlinxweiler.
There are now 13 parent crossing guards in Niederlinxweiler. Their equipment, which consists of a cape, cap, and signaling paddle, is provided by the German Traffic Watch. The crossing guards are insured by the respective cities or municipalities.
