Already during the autumn holidays, a five-day workshop for young and old invites you to explore the city through photography, telling stories in photo series about Saarbrücken 2022. Storytelling with photo series is also the goal of essay photography, but here we work on self-chosen topics rather than predetermined ones.
In addition to these new events, the exhibitions Magical Moments by Werner Richner (opening on 07.11.) and the Völklingen Photo Club (opening on 18.01.2023) are particularly noteworthy, with short workshops also offered in this context. Creativity is also the focus in Fundamentals of Photographic Composition as well as in the online courses The Photographic Eye and Minimalism in Photography, while courses on infrared and HDR photography particularly “illuminate” the technical side.
Of course, the tried-and-true beginner courses, such as Fundamentals of Digital Photography and Learning to Photograph for Beginners, are also included, and are complemented in January by the Saturday workshops The Art of Proper Exposure, Using Sharpness and Blur Creatively, and Designing with Focal Length and Perspective.

A supplement to the entirety of our photography courses are the image editing courses with Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom, with Affinity Photo and GIMP, which you can find from page 291 in the new program booklet. The first courses this semester begin on 09/28 with the Photography, Image Editing, Presentation Working Group, aimed at experienced photographers who wish to work independently in a group of like-minded people, and Lightroom Classic Update, which is designed to help decide whether to switch to a new version in the software subscription. Continuing on 10/05 with Basic Digital Photography Knowledge, on 10/06 with Image Editing with Affinity Photo, on 10/08 with Infrared Photography for Beginners and the online course Wide Angle – Perspectives with Fascination. The holiday workshop mentioned at the beginning, Saarbrücken 2022 – A Photographic City Exploration in the Here and Now, will take place for the first time on 10/28 and will continue in the following week from 11/02 to 11/05. After the autumn holidays, evening courses will start first with Adobe Photoshop and InDesign as well as web design and “RAW conversion” of digital photos.
