Former State Minister Dr. Regina Görner is awarded for her LGBTIQ commitment in the CDU!
For the first time after almost three pandemic years, the Federal Association of Lesbians and Gays in the Union (LSU) invites again on Thursday, September 29th to its parliamentary annual reception in Berlin. It will take place from 6 p.m. at the Allianz Forum near the Brandenburg Gate and thus also in close proximity to the parliamentary district. The focus of the event is the awarding of the LSU Honorary Prize, which is given for outstanding commitment to LGBTIQ within and outside the CDU. The federal board of the LSU has nominated the longtime companion, supporter, and tireless advocate for equality, former State Minister Dr. Regina Görner, for this award.
Regina Görner has repeatedly used her voice in her more than 16 years as a member of the CDU federal executive board to ensure that LSBTIQ people receive recognition for their legitimate concerns within the CDU. Already at the beginning of the millennium, when the introduction of registered civil partnerships was being discussed, she advocated for full equality. At that time, she was still Minister for Women, Labor, Health, and Social Affairs in Saarland and used her position to repeatedly emphasize at crucial points that unequal treatment, as was long the case with registered partnerships, could not continue in the long term. Even later, when it came to abolishing the unequal treatment of same-sex partnerships in income tax law, she campaigned within the CDU for majorities. Twelve years ago, during her time as a CDU federal executive board member, Regina Görner also joined the LSU and was a member of the LSU federal board from 2012 to 2014.
