The Health Department of the Regional Association reports 181 new COVID-19 cases today (as of September 16, 4 p.m.). The number of newly reported cases per 100,000 inhabitants in the past seven days rises according to internal calculations to 311.1, thus exceeding the 300 mark again for the first time in over a month. Of the 181 new COVID-19 cases, approximately 41 percent concern the age group between 20 and 40 years, with around 10 percent the proportion of those under 20 years being the lowest.
7-day total of new infections by cities and municipalities
In the past seven days, 1,019 people in the regional association have been infected with the coronavirus. Of these, 523 live in Saarbrücken, 100 in Völklingen, 73 in Sulzbach, 66 in Quierschied, 59 in Heusweiler, 55 in Riegelsberg, 50 in Püttlingen, 40 in Kleinblittersdorf, 28 in Friedrichsthal, and 25 in Großrosseln.

In total, the regional association has 128,894 confirmed cases that have tested positive since the beginning of the pandemic. Of these, 69,917 are attributed to the state capital and 58,977 to the nine towns and municipalities in the surrounding area.
