On Monday, September 26th, starting at 5 p.m., the official semester opening of the Adult Education Center Regional Association Saarbrücken will take place in the Culture Hall Heusweiler. The free event will feature cabaret artist and author René Sydow as a guest. This semester opening also reflects the focus on political education in the current vhs program. In his lecture „Education vs. Knowledge,“ Sydow questions the traditional ideal of education in the age of the internet. Is it still necessary to memorize poems today when everything seems to be available online in seconds? What role do classical philosophers like Plato still play in the era of Elon Musk? The humorous lecture revolves around everything that is or should be in our minds. After the lecture, long-standing instructors of the vhs Regional Association Saarbrücken will also be honored. The semester opening will be musically accompanied by the children's choir of the Saarland State Theatre with support from the Saarland Choir Association.
The new program of the vhs is divided into the thematic areas of society and life, culture and art, health and nutrition, languages, work and profession, as well as basic education and school qualifications, and is complemented by numerous offerings at the ten branch offices and local adult education centers of the surrounding municipalities. The current semester face is Sibylle Markert. She stays fit with vhs yoga courses and will also be a guest at the semester opening. The program booklet with around 2,000 educational offerings is available both at the vhs at Schlossplatz and at numerous other locations. Additionally, it can be downloaded from the vhs website.
The official semester opening on September 26th takes place in cooperation with the State Center for Political Education of Saarland. Participation requires prior registration at www.vhs-saarbruecken.de or by email to vhsinfo@rvsbr.de.
