Enjoy beer and locally produced finger food in the great outdoors (Wadgassen/PDW). With the second Wadgasser Beer Hike, a successfully launched initiative from 2018 can be continued this year. Along the Werbelner-Geschichte Trail, beer creations from four regional breweries can be enjoyed starting at 9:30 a.m. on September 18th. Registration is possible until Saturday via Ticket-regional.
2nd Wadgassen Beer Hike ‐ a nature and gourmet experience
Spend a day in the forest and the diverse nature of the Bisttal, while enjoying regional beer specialties and freshly served local snacks: these are temptations that many find hard to resist. After the successful and highly praised initial implementation of the idea of a Wadgassen beer hike in 2018, we would like to start again on September 18, 2022, to welcome enthusiasts in Wadgassen with beer and regional snacks in the great outdoors.
We have found several regional breweries that present their respective brewed products to participants at specially set up stations along the 'Werbelner History Trail.' Complemented by delicious snacks made from local ingredients, the hiking and gourmet experience is perfect: This means a 9 km hike through beautiful forest and river valley landscapes in the Bisttal, enriched by the best culinary support with beer and tasty snacks served by hand. The municipality and local partners are the organizers.
As a joint event of the municipality of Wadgassen with the Werbeln IGO, the firefighting cooking club, and the KV 'Die Grenobler' as well as the tourism department of the Saarlouis district, the Wadgassen Beer Hike can finally take place again after two years of pandemic. At this year's beer hike along the Werbeln History Trail, there will be beer tastings from a total of four regional breweries.
At the starting point, the beer hikers are first greeted with some information and a nicely engraved beer tasting glass, ideal for sampling the beer in a personal glass. Here at the start, the barley juice comes from the local brewery 'Schwarzenholzer'. Together with the district of Saarlouis, there will be a lot to learn at this starting station about the production, acquisition, and marketing of regional products, especially using beer as an example.
At the second station at the Marienkapelle Werbeln, there are beer tastings from the Hunsrück brewery 'Kirner,' which was already represented with its beers at the Wadgasser Frühling in front of the Abbey Courtyard here in Wadgassen.
At the third station at the Hall Cross, selected beers from Warsteiner are offered, where one can be amazed at the variety that larger breweries now offer. The fourth station 'Auf der Hardt' on the approximately 9 km long hiking trail serves participants beer from the Saarland regional brewery 'Herz und Heimat'.
At all stations, regional finger food is provided to ensure the hikers' physical well-being.
IMPORTANT: For the hike, you should be fit on your feet and preferably equipped with good footwear!
