Neunkirchen. Fire alarm on the evening of Tuesday, September 13, 2022, in a residential area of Neunkirchen near Ziehwald. Around 6:20 PM, residents reported heavy smoke in a community garden area on Forststraße via emergency call. On approach, a huge column of smoke and glow of flames indicated a large fire. The fire was visible throughout the entire city, and ash also fell from the sky.
Due to the scale of the fire, the fire department proactively issued a major alert for the Neunkirchen city center, Wiebelskirchen, and Münchwies fire brigades. As the first emergency responders arrived, the fire spread could be quickly contained. Residents of Neunkirchen were warned, among other ways via the warning app NINA, to keep windows and doors closed due to the heavy smoke and unpleasant odor.
Overall, several garden and weekend houses on three plots were completely ablaze. The follow-up extinguishing work was quickly advanced under heavy respiratory protection. During the firefighting operations, there were several detonations, presumably caused by gas bottles. No one was injured during the operation. During the operation, Forststraße and Ziehwaldstraße were fully closed.
The Saarland police have initiated investigations into the cause of the fire. Useful information can be reported to the Neunkirchen police at 06821 / 20 30.
