The support association for premature and sick newborns "Kükenkoje" at the Homburg University Hospital celebrated its third anniversary last week. In addition to many former and current patients of the UKS as well as the staff, Deputy Mayor Christine Becker also visited the new lecture hall building. The association's 2nd chairwoman, Lisa Eder, welcomed the numerous guests, including many toddlers who had a somewhat difficult start in life. It was all the more wonderful to see how lively most of them are now – a credit to "Kükenkoje," which is made up of nurses, doctors from the UKS, affected parents, and interested parties. They all strive with their skills and experience to support families through this time as best as possible and, together with early intervention centers and authorities, to prepare them for the – hopefully soon – common everyday life.
Over coffee and homemade cake as well as warm dishes, parents and children made contact; an offer for the little ones in the form of face painting and a magic show, as well as many lovingly crafted small items – balloon animals were made to order for the kids, there were soap bubbles and coloring books and much more – contributed to a successful afternoon.
Alderman Christine Becker thanked those responsible around Lisa Eder and Bernadett Zwartes for their commitment: “I sincerely thank you for the work you are doing here. The ‘Kükenkoj’ is another important facility to support parents and families who surely envisioned a nicer time getting to know their newborns.” She handed over a donation of 100 euros and wished the staff continued success as well as all the best for the families.
