The European Mobility Week is an international campaign by the EU Commission and has offered municipalities across Europe the ideal opportunity since 2002 to bring sustainable mobility closer to their citizens on site.
As part of the EMW, various actions and events draw attention to the different aspects of mobility. Under the motto "better connected," this year the focus is on both the linking of individual modes of transport and the connection of people and various actors in the mobility sector.
On September 16th at 4 p.m., the mobility management of the city of St. Ingbert invites you to join a joint bike tour across municipal boundaries, in which, among others, the mobility management of the Saarpfalz district as well as other cycling officers from the municipalities will participate. Everyone who wants to network and exchange ideas within the framework of sustainable mobility is invited.
On the day of action, Saturday, September 17th, Rickertstraße will be closed to car traffic between Kohlen- and Poststraße. In the traffic-calmed street area, the local chapter of the ADFC, in cooperation with the German Traffic Club, will organize a flea market all about bicycles, where bikes, spare parts, and accessories can be exchanged or offered independently. As a special highlight, particularly beautiful vintage bikes will be awarded by a jury. In addition, a children's bicycle course will be set up.
An information booth about the bus and train services in the Saarpfalz district will also be present in the form of an INGO city bus.
To make Mobility Week visible in the urban traffic area, posters were designed that promote sustainable mobility and focus on public transport/INGO during the campaign period. This draws on the current public transport marketing campaign of the Saarpfalz district, which will be visible on posters and large-format posters in the city area with new slogans and a slightly modified layout.
“I am pleased that our efforts within the framework of mobility management are also finding fertile ground in our municipalities, allowing us to jointly design pioneering initiatives. Considering the developments of recent months, the interest in buses, trains, and bicycles is greater than ever. This presents a great opportunity to convince the population to use sustainable mobility alternatives and to make the topic even more present in politics and society,” said District Administrator Dr. Theophil Gallo.
Participation in the flea market and the vintage bicycle award is free of charge and open to everyone.
