The new school year has begun, and many first to fourth graders have returned to their seats in the classrooms of St. Ingbert elementary schools. The city used the holiday period to carry out some renovation work and new acquisitions.
In the Albert Weisgerber School, acoustic optimization was carried out in several classrooms, significantly improving sound insulation. The caretaker of the Hasseler Eisenberg School already carried out painting work before the holidays, and the roof renovation at the Rischbach School has been completed.
To provide the students with a modern and functional learning environment, nearly 90 individual desks with an order value of approximately €13,000 were purchased for the Pestalozzi and Eisenberg schools. At the Wiesental school, a complete classroom was newly furnished with tables, chairs, shelves, and a teacher's workstation.
In addition to learning, sufficient physical activity in the fresh air is, of course, also important. Therefore, a climbing frame was purchased for the Pestalozzi School, two outdoor table tennis tables for the Süd School, and several scooters and pedalos for the Rischbach and Wiesental schools. Additionally, the exterior wall of the transition area of the Albert Weisgerber School from the school building to the gymnasium was newly glazed so that the children can move between the buildings safely and with dry feet.
As the number of students has increased again this year, a state-of-the-art educational container will be installed at both the Albert Weisgerber School (AWS) and the Pestalozzi School. The container at AWS is intended to be used as a classroom, while at Pestalozzi it provides additional space for the voluntary full-day school (FGTS) and as a support room.
Primary school students in St. Ingbert prepared for the digital future
Each primary school is already equipped with at least one complete set of iPads. AppleTV is also available, and all primary school students and teaching staff can use a Wi-Fi network at their school. During the holidays, an additional 20 whiteboards, projectors, and document cameras were purchased for all primary school locations, so that now all classrooms in the St. Ingbert primary schools are equipped with digital board systems. This places the primary schools in St. Ingbert in a leading position throughout the Saarpfalz district. Another special advantage is the expansion of the fiber optic network: the company Deutsche Glasfaser is in the process of connecting all St. Ingbert primary schools to the fiber optic network. As a result, all primary schools will be able to access fast internet in the foreseeable future.
“In recent years, we have really made great progress in the digitalization of our primary schools. This is also important so that we can prepare our primary school children today for the future of tomorrow,” says Nadine Backes, Deputy for Children and Education. “Many stakeholders, such as the departments of schools, construction, and the city's IT sector, as well as the schools themselves, have worked together with dedication and close cooperation. In addition, we are preparing very well for the continuously increasing number of students and the FGTS offerings.”
