(Wadgassen/PDW) The indoor swimming pool in Differten will open for swimmers from September 13. Despite difficult circumstances with rising energy costs and an uncertain "Corona autumn," the municipality wants to maintain its swimming offerings. A focus will be on swimming courses for children and adolescents.
Focus on swimming courses
„For us, it is not acceptable to go a third year in a row without offering swimming opportunities for children and young people beyond the summer,“ explains Sebastian Greiber, Managing Director of Bäderbetrieb Wadgassen GmbH and Mayor of the municipality. „In close cooperation with the DLRG Wadgassen, we have therefore decided to open the indoor pool and primarily use it for swimming courses.“
Already during the past two years, there were partial closures of the pool and interruptions of swimming courses for children and young people due to the Corona pandemic. The backlog that has arisen among children and young people must now not be allowed to grow any larger, Greiber asserts determinedly.
Pool operation despite the energy crisis
The rising energy costs are also affecting the indoor swimming pool in Differten. However, thanks to a clever procurement strategy, Bäderbetrieb Wadgassen GmbH does not have to fear an uncontrollable surge in costs, although operating expenses are noticeably increasing here as well. By lowering the water temperature and having more compact opening hours, the swimming operation can still be maintained with only minor price adjustments despite the energy crisis.
From September 13th, the Differten indoor pool with the sauna area will be open on Tuesdays as well as Thursdays to Sundays from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM. On Mondays and Wednesdays, the pool is closed to the general public and reserved for official visitors, courses, and training sessions.
„Our responses to the crises of today cannot always involve the closure of facilities and the sacrifice of citizens,“ says Mayor Sebastian Greiber.
Reducing the number of non-swimmers
„We all know how important it is to learn to swim. But the waiting lists for our swimming courses and the Seepferdchen certification are steadily growing. Here, we definitely want to counteract the backlog from the past two years. We have coordinated with the DLRG Wadgassen to place a focus on swimming courses during opening hours,“ reports Greiber. The goal is to prevent the number of non-swimmers, which has noticeably increased due to the COVID-19 pandemic, from growing even larger.
For this reason, the municipality of Wadgassen is providing an online form where all interested parents and children can register for swimming courses. "We probably cannot offer a place to all applicants immediately, as our swimming courses are already very full." By significantly expanding the range of courses and the turnover among participants, the aim is to accommodate as many children and young people as possible.
