Young FREE VOTERS demand an affordable follow-up ticket for public transport in Saarland 52 million, that is the number of 9-euro tickets sold nationwide. In Saarland, it was sold more than 300,000 times, so the ticket has reached the general population, and public transport has been used more than before. From our point of view, the state government missed the opportunity to promptly introduce a follow-up ticket for the expired 9-euro ticket. We demand an affordable regional transport ticket for Saarland's transport network, so it is clear that a follow-up solution must be provided, such as the promised 365-euro ticket.
We Junge FREIE WÄHLER have long been demanding an affordable network ticket for regional transport, so it is clear to us that there must be a follow-up solution. Especially young people such as students, apprentices, or participants in the Voluntary Social Year or the Federal Volunteer Service often depend on public transport and are particularly open to it. However, the current general price development makes buying tickets unaffordable for many. Spontaneous or occasional use has become too expensive for many people. Currently, adults pay 2.40 euros for a single ticket. The Saarland-wide subscription for the entire public transport system costs 99 euros, which is simply too much for many low earners. For the 2022 state elections, we FREIE WÄHLER called for an affordable ticket for everyone: one euro per day, 30 euros per month.
The Saar-SPD with Anke Rehlinger, who famously won the election and has since been able to govern without coalition partners, promised their voters to introduce a 365 euro ticket. In our view, that would also be a fair solution! But now the Minister of Transport, Petra Berg, has stated that there will be neither a continuation of the 9-euro ticket nor the promised 365 euro ticket, as there is no possibility of financing!
We do not want to and will not simply accept the breaking of this election promise by the Saar-SPD! It could be called hypocritical to first promise something, even advertise it widely to the public, among other things with posters, and now want to sweep the issue under the carpet and shirk all responsibility. Is that seriously supposed to be the answer to the current problems of our time? No, it certainly is not. That is simply weak.
Our state chairman Brandon Lee Posse criticizes this approach: "Our state government is currently not only squandering the trust of voters, but also missing the opportunity to initiate a genuine transport transition in our country and move the state towards climate neutrality. We Young FREE VOTERS are deeply disappointed by our state government as well as by the statement of the Minister-President that there is no money left anywhere. Therefore, we urgently demand a thorough review."
Dear state government; please do your homework and ensure an appropriate follow-up offer! And as quickly as possible!
