“The train, the train, the train has no brakes …” echoes loudly from loudspeakers over the sports field of SV Rohrbach e.V., and 85 children and teenagers aged 6 to 16 sing and dance along. This is how Oliver Stolz, youth officer of the club, welcomes everyone to the holiday event as part of the Fun Ferien Dengmert. All participants, boys and girls, have received a green jersey, a water bottle, and a backpack. After the energetic start, the young athletes have to be a little patient. Because they are also greeted by local mayor Roland Weber with the words: “I hope that one of you will make it to the Bundesliga someday. Let’s go!” He thanks SV Rohrbach and all helpers for their great commitment. Mayor Nadine Backes is also present. As the principal of the Rohrbach elementary school, she knows many children, but there are also children from other districts participating. “I am pleased that with the project ‘Fun Ferien Dengmert’ we can show how diverse the club landscape in St. Ingbert is. A great initiative organized by SV Rohrbach and all the other clubs in St. Ingbert,” she praises.
Fun Ferien Dengmert 2023 already in planning
The Fun Holiday program is organized by the Children and Youth Office of the St. Ingbert city administration, Julia Klesen and Jörg Henschke, with strong support from Maria Pieter and Kathrin Lorscheider, who are responsible for the local clubs in the city. The response to the Fun Holidays is great: 23 clubs and 870 children participated this year. "That is slightly fewer than last year," says Jörg Henschke, "but this is due to the changed corona situation. Last year, many children, as well as many organizers, were unable to travel during the holidays. This is different again this year." However, the range of offerings remains just as extensive: from scientific courses at the STEM camps to donkey riding with the Fruit and Gardening Club, from show dance and theater with the carnival club to martial arts, children could choose their favorite activities from numerous leisure options. Weekly programs were offered, among others, by Caritas, the Child Protection Association, and the CVJM Hassel, as Jörg Henschke explains. The first preparations for next year's Fun Holidays are already underway.
After the "boring" introductions, the football kids in Rohrbach finally take the last refreshing sip from their water bottles, and then it really starts: For three days, they prepare for the DFB football badge, which will be awarded on the last day, Saturday. The active days conclude with a barbecue for the whole family. "It's great that so many children have come," says Oliver Stolz enthusiastically. "Above all, I want to thank the trainers and helpers who volunteer to supervise the training camp and have even taken time off for it. Our sponsors have also made sure these days are fantastic, many thanks for that. The children are looked after all day, receiving healthy meals, fruit and drinks, staying active, and learning a lot about football." Then Frank Grundhever, chairman of SV Rohrbach, finally gives the starting signal: "And now it's just about having fun and kicking, kicking, kicking!"
