Over 700,000 Saarlanders are active on social networks such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and others. Social networks are virtual communities. The functions of these portals are diverse. For example, there are pure photo or video networks. In addition to the usual individual profile, they offer the possibility to store numerous personal information as well as photos and documents such as resumes or certificates. Particularly popular are the various types of exchanges via messages, chat, blogs, or status updates, timelines.
All networks have in common that they require the creation of a user account and that you pay for using them with the personal data you disclose. It is therefore important to know what you need to select in the privacy settings to reveal as little as possible about yourself or to restrict the level of public visibility of your profile. And what exactly do the algorithms do with the information that is shown to me?
In this two-hour course, you will be given an overview of the most well-known social networks and shown what you need to pay attention to when using each of them.
This event is part of the campaign "OnlinerlandSaar," which was launched in cooperation with the Ministry of Environment, Climate, Mobility, Agriculture and Consumer Protection under the slogan "OnlinerlandSaar – Consumer Protection on Site."
The aim of the course is to provide participants with, among other things, confidence in dealing with digital media, the internet, and digital devices such as tablet PCs in relation to consumer protection issues. This allows everyday life to be designed more "smart" in the long term, fears regarding digitalization to be reduced, and the introduction to innovative and new digital technologies aims to train Saarlanders to "keep up" with the challenges of an information society. Thus, all Saarlanders are given the opportunity to learn how to handle digital (mobile) devices or to deepen and reinforce existing knowledge.
The course will take place on September 15, 2022, at 2:00 PM in the Mettlach town hall. Participation is free of charge. Register by September 12, 2022, by phone at 06864 83-49 or by email to oeffentlichkeit@mettlach.de
