After a successful course, Hildegund Rupp, head of the German course for Ukrainian refugees in Saarwellingen, says goodbye.
Due to the numerous Ukrainian refugees, a German course was established in the municipality of Saarwellingen to help ease the significantly changed living conditions for the people. The course started on April 13, 2022, in the emergency church in Reisbach under the guidance of Hildegund Rupp. However, since most Ukrainians live in the Saarwellingen district, it was soon decided to move the course to the House of Youth on Engelstraße in Saarwellingen. Classes were held there regularly once a week. Ms. Rupp has been leading the course on a voluntary basis from the beginning and received support from Ms. Molitor. On certain dates, up to 30 refugees of all ages attended the course. To better meet the needs of the participants, a second course per week was established.
Hildegund Rupp teaches "German as a Foreign Language" at Saarland University, which is why she was able to draw on a wealth of experience in the volunteer German course in Saarwellingen. Thanks to her great commitment, all participating Ukrainians made significant progress and were optimally prepared for the courses offered by the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees as well as the younger participants for school.
On August 31, 2022, the German course with Ms. Rupp ended. Mayor Manfred Schwinn and the course participants thanked her for her voluntary commitment and dedication. It is currently not known whether another German course under different leadership will start. Interested teachers are welcome to contact the municipality of Saarwellingen: Tel.: 06838 9007-156, E-mail: soziales@saarwellingen.de.
