The time is almost here: Fair Week 2022 is starting, and the Fairtrade town of Homburg, along with the Fairtrade Saarpfalz district, will once again participate with a fair city rally. As announced last year, the city rally has been expanded and is now offered as a digital Actionbound. It will launch on Saturday, September 10th, during the action day “Fairtrade meets Sustainability – regional-global-fair: 17 Goals for the World.” The event takes place at the historic Homburg marketplace as part of the Music Summer. It is a virtual scavenger hunt accessible via QR code from September 10th on the Biosphere Bliesgau website at https://biosphaere-bliesgau.eu and at https:/actionbound.com/HOM2022. “Exciting stops throughout our city, where important information about fair trade, the Fairtrade town of Homburg, the Fairtrade Saarpfalz district, as well as regional products will be shared, await participants,” informs Christine Becker, Deputy Mayor and Fairtrade Commissioner of the city of Homburg. Instead of last year’s stamp card, QR codes at the individual stops will be scanned to collect points. The Actionbound can be played in any order, paused, or stopped at any time. With each correctly answered question, additional points are awarded.
Also participating again are Blume2000, Eine-Welt-Laden, Edeka Bittner, Jungs Bio, the District Youth Office, and the Tourist Information. New additions include "CHEF KOCHT-Davids Kreativküche," the Christian-von-Mannlich-Gymnasium, and the Unverpackt store. Those who complete all stations can look forward to a small surprise at the Tourist Information. Cooperation partners are the Biosphere Bliesgau Association and the Young Biosphere Bliesgau.
The Actionbound created by environmental educator Sylvia Lerchner is available until the end of the Fair Weeks on September 30th. The annual theme of the Fair Week, "Fair suits you – #fairtrade for human rights worldwide," is entirely dedicated to the 8th Sustainable Development Goal of the United Nations: Decent work and economic growth. The catastrophic conditions in the textile industry factories were tragically highlighted by the collapse of the Rana Plaza textile factory in Bangladesh. This terrible event, which led to a rethink in the textile sector, happened nearly nine years ago. Although some positive changes have occurred, numerous human rights violations and environmental problems remain on the agenda. This is precisely the focus of the station at Mannlich-Gymnasium. “Before you even finished your breakfast this morning, you were already dependent on half the world,” explained Martin Luther King, “it matters how we dress and what we eat, after all, we express our values through these choices.” The cooperation partners are offering the city rally as an Actionbound for the first time to reach younger generations on these topics and to convey these values. “The generations to come are our future. Our actions will determine their tomorrow. We want to raise awareness of how fair and regional trade works and how individual purchases affect the world. I wish the project great success and, in the spirit of sustainability, a continuation next year,” emphasizes District Administrator and Biosphere Reserve Association Chair Dr. Theophil Gallo, thanking everyone who made the initiative possible.
