On Friday, 02.09.2022, at around 7:49 PM, a serious traffic accident occurred on the L 140 in 66773 Schwalbach.
According to the current police findings, a 52-year-old driver from Saarwellingen was driving his car on the L 342R coming from Schwarzenholz in the direction of the BAB 8 and turned left onto the L 140 towards Obersalbach at the junction of L 342R / L 140. At this time, an 18-year-old from Püttlingen was driving his car with three other passengers on the L 140 coming from Obersalbach in the direction of Schwalbach / Elm. The two vehicles collided at the junction of L 140 / L 342R. The force of the collision caused both cars to be thrown onto the roadside verge.
In the traffic accident, the two drivers as well as the 20-year-old front-seat passenger in the vehicle of the 18-year-old novice driver were critically injured. The two teenagers in the back seat of the 18-year-old's car were seriously injured. Both vehicles were completely damaged.
After initial treatment on site by the medical rescue teams, the injured were transported to nearby hospitals for further medical care. In total, five ambulances, two rescue helicopters, and one emergency doctor vehicle were on site. In addition to the rescue service personnel, the Schwalbach volunteer fire department was present with four vehicles and 40 personnel. The health condition of the three individuals initially considered to be critically injured has meanwhile improved, but they are still regarded as seriously injured.
To clarify the course of the accident and the exact cause, an expert was commissioned to prepare a report and was active on site. The two vehicles involved in the accident were removed from the country road by towing services.
For the traffic accident investigation, the L 140 was completely closed in the affected area for approximately three hours and traffic was diverted. The police were on site with four vehicles for this purpose. The investigation into the exact cause of the accident is ongoing.
