On Saturday, September 10, exhibitors invite you to engage with the 17 Sustainable Development Goals through activities at the historic marketplace in Homburg. As part of the Fairtrade Market and the Summer of Music, the 1st SDG Action Day will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. under the motto "regional-global-fair: 17 Goals for the World."
But what exactly are the sustainability goals? "No Poverty," "Zero Hunger," and "Sustainable Consumption and Production" are three of the 17 global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set by the United Nations. These 17 goals are intended to serve as a guide globally, nationally, and regionally for a good life on Earth for all people. Unfortunately, many people have never heard of them. The association "miteinander füreinander e.V.," the city of Homburg, the Saarpfalz district, Junge Biosphäre, and the Biosphere Association Bliesgau want to change that with this day of action.
“At information booths and through hands-on activities, the global sustainability goals will be highlighted and made tangible for Saarlanders under the motto ‘Mir schwenke um’,” explains Association Chairman, District Administrator Dr. Theophil Gallo. Booths featuring Bliesgau products, educational actors, biosphere schools, and many other initiatives will present themselves. In addition to activities related to the sustainability goals, there will also be regional and fair trade products to discover. For example, the ‘Eine-Welt-Laden’ and ‘Unverpackt mit Herz’ stores will also participate in their physical shops. Regional dishes will be offered at the Homburg restaurant ‘Chef kocht – Davids Kreativküche.’ Especially for young people, an Actionbound – a digital scavenger hunt through Homburg – will be activated and playable from September 10th until the end of the month! As part of the Homburg Music Summer, the band "Zydeco Annie & Swamp Cats" will provide entertainment. The day of action will be opened at 11:00 am by Education Minister Christine Streichert-Clivot, District Administrator Dr. Theophil Gallo, Mayor Michael Forster, Deputy Christine Becker, and Cultural Deputy Raimund Konrad. The Fairtrade Initiative Saarland, together with the Education Minister, will honor the ‘Fair School Classes’ from the Saarpfalz district.
The flagship project "SDG Action Day," awarded as part of the Saarland Sustainability Strategy 2021 and organized by the Biosphere Association Bliesgau and the Young Biosphere, is funded by resources from the development cooperation division of the Ministry of Education and Culture of Saarland.
