There was a physical attack against police officers on early Tuesday evening in an ambulance on the planned route from Lauterbach to the Knappschaft Clinic in Sulzbach. Initially, a heavily intoxicated man contacted the police and requested an ambulance for himself. Shortly thereafter, the ambulance crew requested police assistance as the obviously heavily intoxicated man (2.99 per mille) was very uncooperative.
After the police officers arrived on the scene, the 44-year-old man calmed down and resumed his seat in the ambulance. However, during the ride to the clinic, the ambulance had to stop several times because the 44-year-old repeatedly unfastened his seatbelt. To ensure the transport to the hospital proceeded without incidents, two officers then got into the ambulance to calm the 44-year-old. However, he increasingly displayed aggressive behavior and suddenly struck one of the officers unexpectedly in the throat.
During the subsequent attack, he punched and kicked the officers. At first, the officers were unable to get the man under control. Only through the use of the Taser (remote electrical impulse device) was it possible to end the attack by the 44-year-old. Afterwards, following medical evaluation, he was taken into police custody at the Völklingen police station. One officer was slightly injured during the operation. Appropriate criminal proceedings were initiated against the 44-year-old. After sobering up, he was able to leave the station.
