On Sunday, September 25th, actor and author Matthias Matschke will present his first novel "Counterfeit Money" at 5 p.m. in the festival hall of Saarbrücken Castle. The reading takes place as part of the joint literary series "A Guest in the Castle" hosted by the Raueiser bookstore and the Saarbrücken regional association. In his debut novel, Matschke tells with great ease about youth in the Hessian province in the 1980s. The protagonist grows up in a new housing development. The father is a pastor and the mother works at the post office. The first great love, the relationship with the grandfather, the feeling of happiness triggered by playing with the Commodore 64 – the book tells about all these seemingly small things, yet it intensely addresses the most important questions between school days and civilian service.
Mathias Matschke was born in 1968 in Marburg and grew up on the edge of the Odenwald. After completing his Abitur, he initially studied German and Religion to become a teacher but quit to study acting at the Berlin University of the Arts. Following engagements at theaters in Berlin, Hamburg, and Zurich, he made his film debut in Leander Haußmann's "Sonnenallee." He also appeared in international productions such as "The Book Thief" and "The Grand Budapest Hotel." Most recently, he played the title role in the TV crime series "Professor T." Matschke showcases his comedic talent, for example, on the "heute Show." Many also know him for his distinctive voice. He has been involved in various audio drama productions and has narrated several audiobooks.
