Saarbrücken (ots)
A total of 47 so-called "shock calls" were recorded by the Saarland police yesterday, Tuesday (August 30, 2022). In two cases, the well-known scam led to the handing over of jewelry, coins, and cash to the fraudsters. The damage amounts to over 100,000 euros!
An 84-year-old woman from Saarbrücken handed over jewelry and gold coins to a supposed "doctor and notary" after the fraudsters falsely claimed that her daughter was involved in a fatal traffic accident and that bail had to be paid to prevent imprisonment. Only afterwards did the lady become suspicious due to the appearance of the alleged "notary" and contacted the police!
A 60-year-old woman from the Saarbrücken Regional Association experienced something very similar! She, too, handed over cash, silver, and gold coins to a supposed "expert" using the same fraudulent scheme.
The fraudsters deliberately rely on this moment of shock and put their victims under time pressure to induce them to make hasty decisions.
