On Thursday, September 15th at 7:30 PM, the St. Ingbert Literature Forum is hosting a reading with music featuring the author Bernd Wagner at the St. Ingbert City Library.
Bernd Wagner was born in 1948 in Wurzen. He taught German and art education at the Pedagogical University of Erfurt and at a school in Schmachtenhagen. Since 1976 he has worked as a freelance writer. Expatriated from the GDR in 1985, he has been living in Berlin-Kreuzberg ever since.
On this evening, he presents his book "Abandoned Works." "Bernd Wagner's notes were created from 1976 almost exclusively in Berlin, first in the eastern part, and since the end of 1985, after leaving the GDR, in the western part of the city. His last note is dated Christmas Eve 1989, when the collapse of the GDR seemed imminent. These are 'Abandoned Works,' too beautiful and stimulating to be forgotten. They give us a glimpse into the then-legendary artist circle at Prenzlauer Berg. Various notes were not found in notebooks or diaries but on loose sheets, such as the 'Gazettes,' whose words the author cut out from newspapers and glued together. This opus is an attempt to oppose the ubiquitous external chronology of historical events with an inner one. The acting persons, with few exceptions, are named. This does not mean that the author believes he does them justice as portraits. They are deliberately subjective impressions shaped by the time and shared experiences of that era." (Blurb, Faber & Faber Verlag Leipzig).
The reading will be musically accompanied by Robin Weisgerber and Bernd Nickaes. The event is a collaboration between the St. Ingbert Literature Forum, the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, and the St. Ingbert City Library. It will take place in accordance with the hygiene regulations valid at the time of the event. Admission is free.
