In the two-hour course, you will be given an overview of the most well-known social networks and shown what you need to pay attention to when using each of them.
Social networks are virtual communities. Over 700,000 people from Saarland are active on social networks such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and others. The functions of these platforms are diverse. For example, there are pure photo or video networks. In addition to the usual individual profile, they offer the possibility to store numerous personal information as well as photos and documents such as resumes or certificates. Especially popular are the different types of exchange via messages, chat, blogs, or status updates, timeline.
All networks have in common that they require the creation of a user account and that you pay for the use with your own data that you disclose. It is therefore important to know what you need to select in the privacy settings to reveal as little as possible about yourself or to limit the level of public visibility of your profile. And what exactly do the algorithms do with the information I am shown?
The event is part of the campaign "OnlinerlandSaar," which was launched in cooperation with the Ministry of Environment, Climate, Mobility, Agriculture and Consumer Protection under the slogan "OnlinerlandSaar – Consumer Protection on Site."
The goal of the tablet course is to give participants, among other things, confidence in handling digital media, the internet, and digital devices such as tablet PCs, particularly regarding consumer protection-related issues.
This way, everyday life can be made “smarter” in the long term, fears regarding digitization can be reduced, and getting to know innovative and new digital technologies aims to train the people of Saarland to “keep up” with the challenges of an information society. Consequently, all residents of Saarland are given the opportunity to learn how to use digital (mobile) devices or to deepen and consolidate their existing knowledge.
Registration is required by calling the telephone number 06871/507-115.
