An exhibition featuring paintings, graphics, and objects by Ingrid Lebong titled "MEER und MEHR" will be on display from September 19 to October 9, 2022, in the gallery of the Saalbau Cultural Center. The art exhibition will be opened on Monday, September 19, 2022, at 6:30 p.m. by the city's Deputy Mayor for Culture, Raimund Konrad, as well as the curator Dr. Françoise Mathis-Sandmaier.
This exhibition presents a representative selection of works from the past ten years. In addition to mixed media paintings on paper, there are also objects made of wood, metal, and clay.
The theme of the "sea" is visibly and tangibly reflected in Lebong's work. Motif and painting style visualize a dynamic rise and fall. Flowing forms energize the surface and the pictorial space. The exhibition connects to the cross-border art project "Saarland in Marseille - Marseille en Sarre," which Lebong carried out in 2013 in collaboration with the artist Gabi Wagner, explains the curator Dr. Mathis-Sandmaier. The result of this creative work was exhibited in the same year in the then European Capital of Culture Marseille as well as in the Saarland Artists' House in Saarbrücken. However, the theme of the "sea" was by no means concluded after that. The artistic engagement with the city by the sea was meant to have a lasting impact and sustainably inspire Lebong, according to the organizer of the exhibition.
Scenes from the southern French port city are accompanied by various groups of works that oscillate between figurative and abstract. "Here, the painterly is repeatedly combined with the graphic. Photography and text fragments merge with the image surface. Zones of inviting calm respond to the rapid dynamics. The spontaneous and accidental as well as the calculated and constructive accompany the creative process of the works," describes Dr. Mathis-Sandmaier the artist's works. Lebong's two- and three-dimensional compositions are often determined by opposing elements and are always charged with tension.
The curator further writes that the rhythmic, free flow of colors and shapes leads to open and eventful visual worlds. Even in the objects, the boundaries blur and a fusion into independently new creations takes place.
Lebong's art creates something new from the familiar. The unusual perspective sensitizes, among other things, to a different perception of reality. The artist's concern for the well-being of the blue planet, which depends crucially on the condition of the seas, flows into her work. Lebong's exhibition in Homburg stimulates the senses in various ways and moves a lot of "sea and more".
The artist will be present at the opening. Admission is free.
The exhibition also includes a supporting program. The artist personally leads tours through the gallery on Saturdays and Sundays during the exhibition period. Each tour starts at 3 PM. Admission is also free here.
