Gender equality between men and women is the theme of the Hollywood film "Mona Lisa Smile." Nicole Appel, the women's representative of the city of Völklingen, is organizing a screening of the film on September 8, 2022, at the Völklingen Cultural Hall in the Wehrden district. The film starts at 7:30 p.m., and admission is free. However, advance registration is requested.
The plot of the film revolves around the young teacher Katherine Watson (Julia Roberts), who teaches art history at the prestigious all-girls college Wellesley. She resolutely tries to oppose the old-fashioned societal morals and educate her tradition-minded students to face life with confidence. She especially opens up a horizon for the two young women Betty (Kirsten Dunst) and Joan (Julia Stiles), which they had not dared to dream of before. However, her unorthodox teaching methods and liberal attitudes are not met with approval by everyone at the conservative college. Katherine not only has to teach her students to stand up against external circumstances, but she herself must also learn that one has to fight for their dreams and that sometimes you have to take a step back to move two steps forward.
